On behalf of the Nordic Association of Linguistics (NAL) the University of Tromsø is proud to host the 19th Scandinavian Conference of Linguistics. The conference will be held 10-12 of January 2002 (This is during the notorious mørketid: the sun does not rise in Tromsø during this time.)

Practical information for participants:

• Orientation
You will find tourist information about Tromsø here. The university  campus is situated about 4 km to the north of downtown (see map). 

• Hotels
A list of hotels can be found here. 

• Local transportation
The university campus can be reached from downtown by bus no. 20 in 10-15 minutes. The fare is 21,- NOK. A map of downtown indicating the no. 20 bus stop at "Aagaardbygget" can be viewed here, and the bus schedule can be viewed in pdf-format here. The university can be reached by foot from downtown in 30-40 minutes.
An airport bus runs between the airport and downtown. The schedule can be downloaded in pdf-format here. The fare is 35,- NOK. Notice that the last airport bus on Wednesday night leaves from the airport at 22.35!
A taxi between the airport and downtown costs approx. 100,- NOK. 

• Registration
Participants are welcome to register on Wednesday evening (the 9th) between 6 and 9 p.m. at the downtown bar "Strøket" in Storgata 52 (up an alley opposite the church), see map.

• Lunch
A partially sponsored lunch will be organized each day of the conference in the canteen in "Hovedgården" (the Administration Building). Tickets for these lunches will be sold
at the registration Wednesday night and at the price of 75,- NOK a piece. 
Sandwiches, snacks, and light meals can be bought in canteens on campus Thursday and Friday, but all canteens will be closed on Saturday. 

• Conference dinner
On Saturday night the 12th from 7.30 p.m. there will be a conference dinner at the downtown student house "Driv" in Søndre Tollbodgate 3B, see map. 

• Tromsø International Film Festival
Shortly after the conference (January 15-20) is an international film festival, which you will soon be able to read about here (this years’s program is to appear 5 January).
