E-371: Syntax: English as a Germanic Language

Peter Svenonius

E-371 is a graduate seminar based on the advanced undergraduate seminar E-271. The lectures will be the same for both courses, but the syllabus will be expanded, for graduate students, who will move beyond the content of E-271, in conjunction with individual or group consultation with the instructor.

The course examines the structure of English in the context of the closely related Germanic languages. Syntax as well as phonology, morphology, and lexical inventory will be examined. For more detail, see the course description for E-271.

Students will also be introduced to research currently being conducted under the IGLO project.

See the E-271 course outline for a list of readings.
