Sentence analysis. Based on Exercise 1, p. 21, and Exercise 1, p. 47 (from Aarts).

A. Divide the eleven sentences below into relevant parts and assign function labels (Subject, Direct Object, Adjunct, etc.) to the parts.

B. Assign word class labels to the words in the eleven sentences below. Group the words into phrases, where you can.

 

1. Greg opened a can of Coke.

2. She arrived last week.

3. You will need a comprehensive travel insurance.

4. Who said that?

5. In the summer we always go to France.

6. Benny worked in a shoe factory when he was a student.

7. Did he answer you directly?

8. James flew to Greece last Wednesday.

9. It was a sunny day in Moscow.

10. Sadly, we had problems when we arrived.

11. Why did you say that?
