at the phonologyfest,
john
mccarthy gave a course on his candidate
chains theory. this photograph documents the precise moment
(22.june.2006 09:36:35) at which he scolded us for not paying
enough attention in recent years to the successes of derivational
phonology. if you think i'm kidding, check out his
new book from equinox.
marc and
tracy
spent their phonologyfest days teaching (on dutch
and german)
and the evenings trying to figure out what mccarthy meant by "exactly
one change".
christian
did not come to phonologyfest, but instead sat on a train, thinking
of aretha
franklin.
here's me with morris
halle in july of 2005 at the mitchomsky
love-fest. (photo credit: peter)
morris is the guy who hired chomsky,
and is the founder of generative
phonology as a field. we had a great week together in tromsø
a few years ago, and hung out a bit this summer. he's not
exactly keen on ot, but he's always provocative and encouraging
and worth listening to.
